Where do I fly into?

Nearest commercial airports are Idaho Falls, Jackson Hole or Salt Lake City.

Do you supply transportation to and from airport?

Yes, for an extra fee calculate by airport location.

Where is the meeting location?

On the date of your pack into camp we will meet at Bear Creek North trailhead, South of Palisades dam.

Is your ground public or private?

All our trips are conducted on public National Forest Land.

How much experience do you have as Outfitter/Guide?

I have been guiding back country adventures since 1995.

Will there be other hunters in camp?

Up to 6 depending on the size of your group is how many other hunters there will be in camp.

How many total people in camp?

Depends on the number of hunters and if the hunters book 1×1 or 1×2 hunts, typically 6- hunters, 1- camp jack, 3- guides and 1- packer.

How far is horseback ride in?

Camps are located between 4 to 10 miles on horseback. Depending on camp location being utilized.

What are the sleeping arrangements?

Clients sleep in wall tents 3-4 persons per tent, each client has their own cot with pad, each tent Is equipped with lighting and woodstove for heat.

Are there any motorized trails near where I will be hunting?

Yes, there are dirt bike trails in the area. (Hunting cannot be conducted from dirt bike)

How many hunting/fishing days will I have?

1 day packing in 1 day packing out and depending on if you booked 5 days or 7 days hunting/fishing. (7 to 9 days)

How long have you been hunting in the area?

I have been hunting, fishing, and guiding in this area since 2016.

How long have your guides worked for you?

My guides have worked for me for 3-6 years.

Are your guides licensed?

Yes, all my guides are licensed by the IOGLB and all have current CPR/First aid training.

What if I tag out or have to leave early?

Every attempt will be made to accommodate early departure.

Where do I get a list of items to bring on hunt?

A gear list will be emailed to you or you can also download a gear list here.

How much experience does a person need to ride on horse or mule?

No experience needed. (If you do not know we will teach you).

Can I bring my own saddle?

Yes, you can bring your own saddle.

Do you have guaranteed tags?

Yes, we get outfitter allocated Elk and Deer tags.

What is cost of licenses?

License, tags, and permit fees are listed on each hunt specific page under the “Our Hunts” section.

What kind of physical condition do you require?

To get the most satisfaction out of your trip you should be in fair physical condition.

What king of food and meals do you provide?

You will be provided 3 full meals per day (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner) you will also be provided plenty of snacks.

Where does fresh water come from?

Water is provided by springs and filtered through purification filters.

Is there phone signal?

Periodically on your trip you will be in areas that have cell coverage. For communicating we use satellite phones and satellite messengers.

Where is your hunt area?

Hunt area is Idaho unit 66.

What size elk, deer, moose, and bears do you typically harvest?

You can expect elk to average in the 250” to 320”+ range. Mule deer average in the 160” to 180” range with some bigger bucks on the late season draw. Moose are by draw only in this area, but you can expect large high-quality moose. Black bears are large color phase bears.

What is your typical success rate on your elk and deer hunts?

At Saddle Horn Outfitters we judge our success rate by opportunity on species hunted. There are to many variables go into harvest success rate (Like hunter’s shooting ability). Success rate on elk has been 100% opportunity, success rate on regular mule deer is 60% opportunity, success rate on late season mule deer is 100% opportunity, success rate on moose is 100% opportunity.

What should I tip my guide?

This can be a sensitive topic, but the industry standard is 10-20% of the hunt cost.

What do I tip camp jack?

This can be a sensitive topic, but the industry standard is 5-10% of the hunt cost.

What are the typical temperatures like during the hunts?

Temperatures range from 10° F to 75° F depending on what month of year your hunt is.

What should I expect regarding meat processing and taking care of meat?

Transportation and packing out of meat, antlers, and capes to trailhead or possibly to processor if agreement made ahead time.

What is your cancelation policy.

All monies deposited shall be held by SHO for and on behalf of the Client and applied against the total fee.  In the event the Client terminates this agreement, or fails to make payment, the deposit may be retained by SHO as its sole and exclusive remedy hereunder as liquidated damages but not as a penalty inasmuch as the parties mutually agree that SHO damages may be difficult to ascertain. In the alternative, if Client does not pay all fees when required, SHO may treat this contract as being in full force and effect and maintain an action for damages against Client for all costs expended by SHO in preparation for said trip. In such event, Client agrees that she/he will be responsible for all costs and damages proven by SHO, including attorney fees. However, SHO may, at its discretion, allow the Client to apply forfeited deposit towards a trip at a later date, said date to be mutually agreed upon by SHO and Client.

In the event that after the trip starts, the Client should desire to terminate the hunt early, SHO will, consistent with the rights and convenience of the remaining hunters and SHO, endeavor to transport the Client out of the hunt area. Any costs incurred for any unscheduled departures are the sole responsibility of the Client. Client acknowledges and understands that in such event, the decision as to when the Client will be transported out, will be at the sole discretion of SHO, and under such circumstances, the Client shall not be entitled to a refund of any portion of the fee.
