About the Outfitter

Jesse Tatman grew up in Utah, Wyoming, and Nevada. From a young age Jesse was hunting and fishing with his mother and father. At the age of 8 years old, his father taught him how to field dress his first Mule deer and at the age of 12 he shot his first forked horn Mule deer buck in Nevada. When he was 14 his family moved back to their hometown of Escalante, Utah where he had his first experience hunting elk. As he developed as an outdoorsman he continued learning from his father, grandfather, and uncle. Through their experience they taught Jesse how to fish, safely hunt, navigate, and survive in the wilderness. At the age of 16 he shot his first spike bull elk. As Jesse’s experience in the outdoors grew, so did his skills and he harvested many animals. At age 18 he moved to the Uintah Basin in Utah. In 1995 Jesse started guiding for Flying J Outfitters in Utah, where he was mentored by the legendary packer and guide Lonny Jackson. Jesse guided horse and mule pack trips in the high Uintah Mountain Wilderness for camping, fishing, and hunting big game. In 2006 he stared guiding in Nevada for Currant Creek Outfitters. Here he was mentored by Riley Manzonie on the effective methods of glassing and the nicety of fine optics and equipment for hunting trophy big game. In 2008 he started guiding for Doyle Moss and Mossback Outfitters in Utah, guiding elk and deer. In 2007 Jesse made his first trip to Alaska hunting moose. On this hunt Jesse and his guide were charged by his first grizzly while calling moose. He hunted remote Alaska being mentored by the legendary Stevenson family on safety and survival of hunting in such a remote and harsh environment. Jesse harvested many big game trophies in Alaska. In 2011 Jesse started guiding in Alaska for Ben Stevenson and Alaska Frontier Guides. Since 2011 Jesse has guided many successful hunters with Alaska Frontier Guides for moose, Dall sheep, Mountain goat, Brown bear/Grizzly bear, and black bear. In 2018 Flying J Outfitters purchased a permit area in Idaho’s unit 66. Jesse started guiding pack in camp elk, deer, wolf, black bear, and fishing adventures in this unit. He has guided many successful sportsmen and women in this area. In January 2023, Jesse purchased the permit area from Flying J Outfitters and created Saddle Horn Outfitters. He is currently licensed as an outfitter/guide by the IOGLB and forest permit by the Caribou-Targhee National Forest. Jesse’s passion is taking people on remote backcountry adventures into the wild lands of the backcountry and wilderness where man is a visitor. Jesse strives to preserve the precious resources and his ultimate goal is for the public to enjoy these places while leaving “No Trace”.
